Tenerife buoyed by German tourism prospects

The importance of the German market for Tenerife’s tourism sector has been further underscored by the positive news gleaned from the crucial ITB Berlin fair which concludes today in Germany.

Senior figures from the island’s tourism industry took full advantage of what is widely considered one of the most important events for the global travel industry to meet with German tour operators, travel agents and other stakeholders and receive updates on the prospects for 2025.

The delegation headed by Cabildo vice-president Lope Afonso and Tenerife Tourism CEO Dimple Melwani, accompanied by representatives of the hotel sector, heard from the horse’s mouth that capacity on flights from the almost 20 German airports currently serving Tenerife is expected to increase by over 12% compared to 2024 and exceed one million seats.

The rise will consolidate the healthy position of the German market – along with the United Kingdom, one of the mainstays of tourism here – and comes on the heels of the 10% growth recorded last year compared to 2023, an increase which brought the total number of Germans holidaying in Tenerife to just over 860,000.

Commenting on ITB Berlin, Afonso said the multiple contacts with key players, including airlines, over the course of the three days had proven to be a major success and gave cause for great optimism in terms of the German market for 2025.
